Barnesville, GA – The Highlander soccer team opened their home schedule with a 3-2 win over South Georgia State College. Gordon State opened up a three goal lead at the half and looked to be comfortable heading for the second region win of the year.

In the 15th minute of play, Ashley Hendrix scored her first goal for the Highlanders. Jennifer Beharie found Hendrix in space behind the SGSC defensive line. Hendrix was able to round goalkeeper Crystal Francis to pass into the open net.

Hendrix then turned provider in the 36th minute as she slipped a clever pass to Alex Chapman who broke free to score her first of the year. Just a minute later, Chapman would set up Brittany Colangelo who gave the Highlanders what looked to be a comfortable three goal lead.

However, in the 82nd and 85th minutes, goals from South GA's Serena Nelson and Yosselin Paz brought the Lady Hawks back into the game. The Highlanders held on to take the season record to three wins, one lose, and one draw.

The Highlanders will be in action again on Sunday, September 15th at 11:00 AM as the powerful Polk State Eagles visit from Florida.
