The Highlander baseball program will open the 2018 season on February 2nd with the Kevin Miller Tournament hosted by Gulf Coast State College in Panama City, FL. A challenging opening weekend will include St. Johns River State College, Chattahoochee Valley CC, and Gulf Coast State College. Collectively, these three teams won 117 games in 2017.
Gordon State will have their home opener on February 5th in a doubleheader with LaGrange College JV. The first home weekend set will bring Tennessee rival Cleveland State to Highlander Field for a three game series on February 9th & 10th.
Chipola, the NJCAA defending national champion, will face off with the Highlanders three times in 2018. February 15th will be the first of these contests with the Indians in Marianna, FL. Chipola will visit Barnesville on February 28th.
Conference play opens on March 3rd at Andrew College. This will start the newest modification to GCAA's conference schedule. Starting this year, each team will play one extra nine inning game separate from the four game conference series. This will give each team five games with the six different conference opponents. The first conference series for the Highlanders will begin on March 13th in Tifton versus ABAC. Conference play will continue until the final regular season game of the year on May 5th in Barnesville against South Georgia State.
The 2018 GCAA conference tournament will be hosted by Gordon State College at Highlander Field on May 9-12th. This year, only the winner of the GCAA tournament will move forward to the East Central District Championship. The 2018 East Central District Championship will be hosted by the GCAA tournament champion on May 16-19th. The Georgia champion will play a best of three series against the Tennessee Junior College tournament champion. The winner of that series will then make plans to attend the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado on May 26th - June 2nd.
