Barnesville, Ga. – The Gordon State College men's basketball team released its 2018-19 schedule Friday afternoon, ushering in its fifth season with Bruce Capers at the helm.
The fifth-year GSC head coach has planned as usual a tough schedule including opening weekend on the road Nov 2-3 in Harriman, TN against Roane State and Cleveland State. The schedule is packed with a 12-game home slate that includes a Nov. 9-10 GSC Veterans Tip off classic against Sante Fe State College and Gulf Coast State College respectively. Nov. 16 & 17 the Highlander's will play in the South Georgia Technical College Classic against USC-Salkehatchie and Tallahassee State Community College. The schedule also includes other top D1 JUCO non-conference teams to include St. Peterburgs State College, Chipola State College, and State College of Florida Manatee.
"I think it's a great, challenging schedule," Capers said. "We're going to be playing in some of the toughest environments in JUCO basketball, including the new GSC SARC arena where we hope to compete for a GCAA Region 17 championship."
"We are going to be tested early and often, and these first few games are great examples of that," Capers said. "We always believe in schedules that are going to challenge and prepare us for tough conference play".
The Highlander's conference schedule will consist of always tough teams like Georgia Highlands, Central Georgia Tech, South Georgia State, South Georgia Tech, and East Georgia State just to name a few.
Special promotions for the 2018-19 schedule includes Veterans Day Classic, a white out, community day ending with Sophomore and Family Day March 2, 2019.
