Highlanders Shut Out Rival Georgia Military College 3–0, Advance to GCAA Championship
Gordon State booked their spot in the GCAA Conference Championship with an impressive 3–0 win over rival Georgia Military College on Tuesday night.
In one of the most anticipated matchups of the season, the Highlanders rose to the occasion in front of their home crowd, defeating Georgia Military College 3–0 to secure their place in the GCAA Championship. The victory showcased the team's growth, discipline, and belief — a reflection of how far this group has come over the course of the season.
From the opening whistle, Gordon State played with intensity and purpose, pressing high and controlling possession through smart movement and quick passing. The breakthrough came courtesy of Isabel Tressler, who produced a moment of brilliance by bending a corner kick directly into the back of the net to give the Highlanders an early lead. The goal lifted the energy across the field, setting the tone for a confident first half.
Gordon's dominance continued as they dictated the tempo and created chance after chance. Their persistence paid off when Tatiana McCoy pounced on a loose ball following another dangerous corner, reacting quickest to double the lead. Her goal reflected the team's relentless attitude and their willingness to compete for every second ball.
The Highlanders carried that same intensity into the second half. Maci-Lauren Lanier capped off the victory with a brilliant solo goal — pressing high to win the ball back, showcasing her skill to beat the defender, and finishing with poise to make it 3–0. It was a sequence that captured the Highlanders' spirit: high energy, collective effort, and belief in one another.
Defensively, Gordon State was organized and disciplined, limiting GMC's chances and earning another clean sheet. The midfield unit controlled the rhythm of the game, breaking up play and connecting the lines, while the attack created opportunities through movement and confidence on the ball.
After the game, Head Coach Kennet Fosuhene praised his team's complete performance and collective growth:
"An excellent performance — we played with high energy and passion, moved the ball well, and took our chances. It's a testament to the players' hard work that we now have an amazing opportunity ahead of us. Proud coach."
With the victory, Gordon State advances to the GCAA Championship Game, where they will travel to Douglas, GA to take on South Georgia State College on Saturday, October 12, at 2 PM. The Highlanders will look to build on this momentum as they chase the program's first conference title under Coach Fosuhene.
